Ryan’s Here!

February 24th, 2003 · 6 Comments

“A gentle(?) push and a mild arc and the cowhide globe hits home…”

Hot Rod couldn’t have said it any better. So the pushing was not gentle, there is no real arc and the globe is a plastic oxygen mask, but we now have another Crane - Ryan Michael - in the world!

Quick re-cap before I go back to the hospital as I received a phone call with exciting news a moment ago… but that’s getting ahead of myself.

Sunday 7:30p: Checked into hospital, filled out paperwork, and got ready.

~9:00p: Started Pitocin to begin contractions.

11:30p: Contractions were getting heavy and painful so Lorey had an epidural (I didn’t pass out, but I was a little lightheaded. :) She was a trooper though!)

12:00a: Lorey offers to exchange me for the “epidural man.”

12:30a: I finally was able to sleep for a couple hours while Lorey rested peacefully.

2:30a: Woke up, just hanging around watching SportsCenter repeat over and over.

4:15a: They decided to have Lorey push since she was ready to go. The first push brought the baby’s heart rate way down, so they stopped Pitocin, gave some terbutaline (Brethine) to slow down contractions and called the doctor.

4:40a: Doc was at the hospital and was getting prepared (just-in-case) for a c-section. Lorey started pushing and did a great job!

5:41a: With the help of a strong vacuum (I’ll try to get some ouchie-head pictures for tomorrow), Ryan Michael was finally born!

His breathing has been a little erratic (sometimes too shallow or sometimes too fast) so he has been in the nursery all day long. That phone call was to tell me that he is finally back with Lorey in the room! So, without further prolongation of this story… check out the pictures (remember, they pull up in the same window, so if you only see the first one, click on the toolbar (bottom of the screen) to pull the pic up each time - need help? call me…) and I’ll keep everyone updated! Thanks for all the support and love.

Congratulations guys!!! I must say that he looks a lot like his Uncle BJ however. Man he is beautiful! All kidding aside I’m glad that everyone is doing okay, and I’m so happy to have a nephew to teach to play ball… Look at it this way:
    1B: Garrett
2B: Ryan (in a few days)
    3B: BJ
    P: Michael
    C: Dad
We are just a second basemen away from a full infield. Maybe we can call the kid from The Sandlot!

Just kidding guys love all 3 of you!!!
