Grandparents. Wow. Now we feel old…
Yes, it’s true. Sammie finally had her two puppies as expected. Things went rather smoothly as we did our panicking early and things were perfect from then on.
We started around 10:45p tonight (right after I got home from work). We could tell something was going on by the way Sammie was acting. (I only got a minute or two of kisses after work… man, I felt deprived) By about 11:15p you could start to see the edge of the sac beginning to crown. Our neighbors recently had chihuahua puppies and had problems, so Lorey and I decided to start driving to the emergency vet since they were about 30 minutes out from us.
On the car ride over, the first puppy was born! It was around 11:35p or so and they told us since we were close enough to the animal hospital, just to come in and make sure everything is alright. We continued on and the vet technician (who was more than excellent, I might add) helped us cut the cord with the first puppy and get everyone situated and calmed down. Around 30-40 minutes later, the next puppy came out with no problems! Two puppies with two different birthdays! How cool is that?
So, we’re finally home. Sammie has been constantly cleaning and taking care of the puppies. We might not even get to sleep with her in the bed tonight!! (Speaking of cutting the cord, Daddy). Everything went better than expected, and now we get to learn the whole newborn situation again. Luckily, Sammie’s doing the majority of the work this time. Anyways, we took a bunch of pictures and I’ll put them up tomorrow. I still haven’t gotten all the Ryan pictures done (or started for that matter), so I’ll probably skip those and go straight to puppy pictures.
We’re so proud of Sammie and (whisper, whisper) I think Lorey might even let me keep one.
Have a great night!
