The whole family continues to be under the weather today, but it seems we’re on the road to recovery. Ryan saw his pediatrician today, and there was some good news and some bad news. The good news is that he’s doing pretty well… still eating fine, and not running a fever. The bad news is that his breathing is a bit labored, but that can be treated pretty easily.
We had our first trials with a nebulizer machine (a breathing machine to help open up the lungs and make it easier to breathe… think of it as an asthma inhaler mixed with a humidifier), and it worked pretty well. Ryan got a treatment (Xopenex) at the doctor’s office, and then got one at home (albuterol) with a mask and actually did great (see the last picture below). He just sat in my arms and stared up at me for about 85% of the treatment. After that, he had had just about enough and we finished the rest without the mask. He’s not on antibiotics as the doctor is pretty confident that this isn’t something antibiotics will treat. ([SOAP BOX ON] which is the case is most pediatric infections!!! Don’t let your doctors hand out antibiotics like candy!!! [SOAP BOX OFF])
[HIDING BEHIND SOAP BOX ON] As for me, I saw my doctor today and got an antibiotic 
[HIDING OFF]. A little generic Keflex for 10 days should probably do the trick, and actually, I’m glad I’m starting something. I decided to take today and tomorrow off of work to help get me better and allow Lorey to rest some while I try to fix up Ryan. Seems to be working okay as we both got a nap today and actually feel a little better.
Otherwise, things are good. The weather isn’t great here as it has been the last few days (80ish), but at least it’s not snowing/hailing as I here it has up north. Hopefully everyone is doing well, and we’ll keep everyone posted!

Hey I just found some good news for Ryan. A new study shows that babies exposed to dogs during the first year of their life are much less likely to develop allergies. Sammie’s doing some important work there.

Very nice. Glad to see she’s worth having around (of course, I don’t know what we’d do without her!). In fact, she’s looking to play right now, so I guess I owe her one
